INTERACT
CLUBS

The Rotary Club of
Bridgeport is proud to be sponsors of two high school
Interact Clubs:
The Interact Club of St.
Johns Central High School "Irish"
located in Bellaire OH was chartered in 2002 with 127
charter members. This is also quite an accomplish when the
enrollment at that time was just over 225. The club has
been very active in the community Bellaire by sponsoring
Easter Egg hunts in the downtown park and volunteering at
local nursing homes. They have also been very active with
international projects. In 2005 they filled shoe boxes
with school supplies that were taken on a medical mission
to the Philippines and distributed to children there.
Teacher and Rotarian Mike McFarland is the advisor for the
club.

The Interact Club of Bridgeport
High School "Bulldogs"
in Bridgeport OH was chartered in 2009. Interact is the
first community and international service club at the high
school. Past President David Demarest made it his
Presidential project during the Rotary year 2008-09 and
got the process started. With the help of District New
Generations Chair Roy Edge they met with potential
advisors as well as with the Superintendent to start
generating interest. In November of 2009, 65 students put
their name of the Interact Charter Application and the
Interact Club of Bridgeport High School began. Even before
they were chartered, students participated in the annual
Bridgeport Christmas Parade with Rotarians and have
assisted in several fundraisers on their own and with the
Bridgeport Rotary Club. Teacher and Rotarian Stephanie
Mendelson is the advisor for Bridgeport.

During the Rotary
Club's annual Installation Dinner, outgoing Interact
officers and Board members from each Interact club are
honored for their service. The incoming officers and
Board members are sworn in along side the Rotary club
Officers. Below is the installation of the 2009-10
Interact Officers for both clubs.

What
is Interact?

or small. They can draw from the student body of a single

Each year, Interact
clubs complete at least two community service projects,
one of which furthers international understanding and
goodwill. Through these efforts, Interactors develop a
network of friendships with local and overseas clubs and
learn the importance of
As one of the most
significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary
service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and
geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide
