VINCE GALLAGHER
CLUB PRESIDENT
2009-2010
Vince
Gallagher, the son of a Naval Officer, was born in Bermuda
and comes from a large family having seven brothers and
sisters.
He lived in six states by the time he graduated
from High School.
His
first experience with the Ohio Valley was as a student at
Wheeling College (now Wheeling Jusuit University).
In his junior year he met his future bride, the
former Ann Kirby of Wheeling, and was married the
following summer.
Vince
received his undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1907
and went to work for Sears Roebuck & Co.
By 1977, Vince and Ann were blessed with four
children and they decided that there would be no better
place than the Ohio Valley to put down roots for the
family.
A
profession in the financial industry as a stock broker was
his doorway to establishing roots first in Brookside and
then in 1985 in the Kirkwood section of Bridgeport.
He
became active with his Alma Mater in 1978 and was
president of the Wheeling College Alumni Assoc. from 1981
to 1985.
With his children becoming active in sports, he
coached little league baseball, grade school football and
boys and girls basketball at St. Joseph Central.
Once the children entered high school, be became an
assistant girl’s basketball coach at St. John Central
for 13 years before retiring in 2007.
Vince
and Ann will be celebrating 40 years of marital bliss t
his summer.
They plan to take the entire family which includes
their three sons, Scott, John and Rick and their daughter
Christina as well as their six grandchildren on a Disney
Cruise.
Vince
is humbled by the honor of being President of the best
Rotary Club in the state of Ohio and beyond.
Tonight, Vince will outline the vision of his
Rotary year which is “THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR
HANDS”.
He wants to emphasize fellowship and heritage
during the coming year.
He is proud of the commitment and dedication that
all our Rotarians have shown over the years and he wants
to revisit our historic past and our international
heritage that began in Bridgeport and surrounding
communities over 200 years ago.
He
knows that we can smooth the path of our future members by
having more activities with our two Interact Clubs at St.
Johns and at Bridgeport High School.
