Dan Delande was born and raised in Bridgeport and is presently living in Shadyside for the last five years. He graduated from Bridgeport High School .

 

Dan graduated from Ohio University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and in 1977 received his Masters Degree from the University of Dayton in School Administration. Between high school graduation and receiving his Bachelor’s Degree, Dan served our country for six years as a U.S. Navy reservist and went to active duty for two years as a hospital corpsman in both San Diego and Camp Pendleton Marine Base.

 

Upon completing his call to serving our country, Dan taught and was principal of 33 years in the Bridgeport Schools (four years) and the Martins Ferry Schools (29 years) before retiring in 2002. Not ready for the easy life, Dan once again went back into education and for the last six years has been principal at St. Joseph Central.

 

Dan is very active in athletics as well. He was a basketball official for 23 years before retiring and becoming observer for the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVMC). For the last eighteen years Dan has been involved in umpiring high school and college softball. Dan is the high school and slow pitch umpire assigner as well as the director of the Wheeling Recreation Department softball leagues.

 

Dan is presently President of the Ohio Valley Approved Umpires and has served in many positions also for the Ohio Valley Approved Basketball officials. His hobby is golfing.

 

Dan is also a member of the Ohio Valley Elks, The NCEA, NAESP and the Shadyside American Legion.

 

Dan is married to the former Connie Jafrate for the last thirty-six years. They have one daughter, Gina, who is married to Dan Coggins and also live in Shadyside. He is a very proud grandpa of two. Alexa who is nine and will be in the 4th grade and his sidekick, Anthony, who is 7 ½ and in the second grade.
